HTTP 429 means the service detected more requests than expected in a short period. It is a rate limit, not a password error.
Account or IP?
Limits can combine session, network, device, frequency and endpoint signals. Switching accounts on the same network may not reset them.
What to do
Stop scans and automatic retries. Normal manual browsing may continue, but VPN hopping, rapid account switching and repeated tools can extend the cooldown.
When to retry
Use the suggested time as a safety buffer. After repeated 429s, wait 24–48 hours and test once on a small profile.
Large accounts
Large lists require more pages. Slow the pace, avoid duplicate scans across tools and reopen saved snapshots instead of rescanning.
| Situation | Recommended | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| First 429 | Stop and wait | Immediate retry |
| Repeated 429 | Rest 24–48 hours | VPN/account hopping |
| Manual use works | Use manually only | Automatic list refresh |
FAQ
Why does manual Instagram still work?
Manual browsing and high-volume list endpoints may have different limits.
Will a VPN fix it?
It is not recommended and may add account-risk signals.
Is there a fixed cooldown?
Instagram does not publish one; repeated warnings justify a longer rest.
